X11166 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}7/KW. 22nd September, 1936. Your Ref: GVanV/GEM. The Automotive Products Co.Ltd., Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa. For the attention of Mr. Van Vestraut. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of the 21st inst. With regard to the leaking Jack, none of the second set of Jacks which you supplied was taken to pieces in this works, they were found to be leaking the first time they were used when jacking up the car. The first set of Jacks, however, which were originally fitted with the light spring, were taken to pieces by your Mr. Bone in these Works with entirely inadequate apparatus, as he came over here with no tackle whatever and we had to take the Jacks to pieces as best we could. These particular Jacks were subsequently useless as they leaked at both top and bottom caps. As regards testing the Jacks before delivery, would it not be possible to test at an overload pressure of, say, 5,000 lbs/sq.in., as this would make more certain that no trouble would happen afterwards. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
