Messrs. Rolls Royce, Limited, D E R B Y. Your Ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GB.2/HH. For the attention of Mr. W.A. Robotham. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your drawing and letter dated 11th April regarding a set of 5 test Wheels. We apologise for the unavoidable delay due to extensive damage we suffered by enemy action shortly after receipt of communication. On checking your required wheels we find that your first choice (to drawing No RG.{Mr Rowledge}2347) while being the more easily produced involves the considerable tool cost of £300. In view of this rather large sum for experimental tooling we should like to know whether you still desire us to proceed further. We have checked this tooling question carefully and we have also redrawn the wheel showing slight modifications which we think are necessary. We have shown reinforcements on either side of the bolt holes and reduced the radius 'A' to 1/4". These changes we hope will still give you sufficient clearance for fixing the Hub Cap by whatever method you have chosen. In answer to question on the aluminium rims for 16" wheels we hope shortly to be able to do some experiments on various materials and we shall communicate the results as soon as they are available. Yours faithfully, KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL COMPANY. LTD. A.{Mr Adams} Inglis. Chief Engineer. | ||
