INDICATOR FOR STATE OF BATTERY CHARGE+ X.4008.
X.8780.

There is no instrument giving direct instrument board indication of the state of battery charge. Density of the electrolyte is the most reliable indication provided the battery is kept constantly at work, i.e. not over-discharged, and the levels of the electrolyte are duly maintained by the addition of distilled water.

Voltmeter indications, though useful in the absence of other devices, are not a direct indication.

It is considered far preferable to have an electro-magnetic automatically operated dynamo field resistance inserting switch, for reduced rate of charge. We have at present experiments in hand in that direction.

In connection with the general problem, see our report EFCL/T8.10.26. A further report will follow shortly on the actual functioning of this apparatus on the bench.
