R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 28-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/15. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EH. c. to CJ. EH4/LG1.10.18. X. 3383. With reference to your telegram re trying ball bearings in place of roller bearings on "Condor" epicyclic gear. We immediately had an order sent for the ball bearings but so far they have not yet arrived. All orders for ball bearings have now to be passed through the Controller for ball bearings. We have, however, got Capt. Briggs to order some bearings through the Technical Dept. and he has promised they shall be sent tomorrow. We have ordered "Eagle" size as well as "Condor" so that we can confirm the results, it will be much easier for us to obtain long endurance runs quickly on the epicyclic gear on an "Eagle". than the "Condor".
