To PH. GWB. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X.8350 BJ1/H27.4.26. (X8991) 14-Tooth Axle. I attach a copy of my memorandum to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, BJ5/H13.4.26, and his reply, R4/M21.4.26. Kindly let me have your opinion as soon as possible as to whether you consider there is any objection to our supplying 14-tooth axles under the special circumstances mentioned in my memo. Of course we shall reduce the number to a minimum, and endeavour to prevent customers from having them as far as seems desirable; but we do not want to disappoint customers who have been used to a 14-tooth axle on their Silver Ghosts and especially want the same acceleration, etc. on their Phantoms.
