Bentley Silencer Suspension.

Replying to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/KT.26.7.33, the fact that the whole of the front end of the silencer and pipe was lagged and underwent a thorough heating up on the dynamometer before leaving for France, as you have pointed out, may have had something to do with the failure.

It is agreed that we are now going to drop the lagging and use thicker gauge material for stopping the tinny noise.

We think we have been able to make these modifications without scrapping the dies.

We are very pleased to receive the graphs of forward and sideways flexibility of the rubber suspension and we can now proceed on the next stage of getting this suspension as we want it for the 10,000 miles test.

Will you please test with one rubber unit only where two are now used/to increase the side swing.
so as

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
