Dear Sir, I beg to acknowledge yours of the 28th instant with reference to the GENERAL MOTORS VALVE LASH MECHANISM. We investigated this matter very fully some years ago and eventually had six engines fitted with this device operating in some London Transport vehicles. For your information I enclose you herewith our official report on this experiment, and should be glad if you would return this to us after perusal. I also enclose herewith some Assembly drawings. In our experiments the plunger assembly was obtained complete from General Motors. This assisted us in the experiment. I understand from General Motors that this device is giving them complete satisfaction and has been standard on a number of their designs for some years. The difficulty we had with the extra wear on the cam follower due to the continuous loading on it would, of course, be overcome with a push rod type of engine having a roller follower.
