re. 40/50 Petrol Filter Choked.

With further reference to our EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/H29.1.24. and your reply BY2/P31.1.24, we have since the receipt of this memo had two or three complaints which we have been able to deal with as per your instructions. In each of these cases the evidence is such that the cause may be due to the point you raise.

An interesting case is the failure of the petrol supply due to the choking of this filter on the Demonstration Class car, 7-LW. A short time ago a temporary test Autovac system on this car was replaced by the present standard and a new petrol tank was fitted, and it is after running 4,000 miles that the failure of the petrol filter took place.

A further case is that of one of our own Trials cars, 45-ZG, which has done about 8,000 miles since new, and as far as we can ascertain it is the same filter as originally turned out with. I return herewith the filter taken from this car.

Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} is also seriously complaining that he is having considerable trouble with customers' cars coming in for attention.

We have already circulated our Depots advising them of the possible symptoms of this trouble and pointing out that the filter itself should be changed and further spares obtained from the Works.

Do you think in view of the above there is any further action we can take in regard to this matter? Should we not issue instructions that all filters on cars issued from a certain date should have the filters changed and could you give this date or chassis number approximately?
