OY. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

LUBRICATION OF CLUTCH SPIGOT.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} has instructed us to test the Springfield scheme of doing away with the clutch spigot lubrication on the 40/50 and rely on the hand-lubrication to the clutch.

We should like to know whether you made any other alterations when you did this.

We have carried out a number of tests and we cannot consistently get the oil to run on the spigot.

We wondered whether you were using a genelite bush.

We believe that if the clutch was erected well-lubricated, it might last for 12 months or more without requiring any additional oil.

The only condition we feel frightened of is when the car is allowed to coast down a hill, gear in, engine stopped and clutch out.

We should like to have reports and tests you have taken to prove that the oil will get on the clutch spigot.

Yours truly,
