V.1336 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/KW. 21st September,1935. The Earl of Rothes, The India Tyre & Rubber Co.Ltd., Mileage Dept. (Area 'B'), 80, Clapham Road, LONDON, S.W.9. Dear Rothes, Thank you for your letter of the 20th September. Confirming our telephone conversation, the all-steel body put up quite a good show on the Continent, but only about 3,000 miles were covered. The only defect attributable to the construction was the cracking of the scuttle. There were other minor irritating defects such as sunshine roof rattles, dust penetrating to the interior of the body, etc., but these were nothing to do with the new design. When the faults have been rectified we are going to send this car through one of our standard 10,000 miles tests, which will really test out the body. With regard to tyres, we have ordered some 7 x 16's for trial at Derby. We also like the 6-ply Aero Cushion we are trying on the Bentley better than the 4-ply, and shall probably run some of the 6-ply on the Continent. Yours sincerely, | ||
