BY ) FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} SECRET. SERRATED UNIVERSAL JOINT. X7300 X1457 SS.{S. Smith} CLUTCH SHAFT. X.7340 Herewith we send N. sch. 2832., on the righthand side of which we have shewn R's proposed modifications contained in R3/M12229. We shew a separate filler for the shaft and for the rear joint, but we have indicated the combined filler R suggests with a view to it being tried. It appears to us that as these joints are at least as oiltight as the Mechanic's joints, and have much less movement to make, they should not require more attention than they do, that is to say, they would be practically filled up with oil on erection and practically should not require any more, so that the principal object of the connection through the shaft is to lubricate the ball bearings in the clutch. Perhaps you could confirm this. On the lefthand side we have indicated how some room could be saved by this proposal, this room ultimately to be used up in shortening the box, though at the moment it has been shewn giving more space for access to the lubricating hole. We do not think that anything should be done with it at the moment. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
