re B.80 WATER PUMPS.
--------------------

Further to memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Rd.3/GH.3.4.40., we understand from HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/HH. that existing specifications for pumps to SUD.1398 are incomplete. We should be glad, therefore, if EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. would arrange to modify specifications for all engines not yet completed to include this pump, and suggest that HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/HH. order up six sets of parts.

Mr. Willis, the representative of the Skefco Ball Bearing Co. recently paid us a brief visit, and was of the opinion that a sealed bearing of the ventilated type would be able to cope with our fan load. We should be glad, therefore, if you would look into the question of modifying existing B.80 pumps to take a Morgan-Stuart gland assembly as used on SUD.1398 in conjunction with a sealed Skefco bearing. Ventilation should be arranged on a principle similar to Vauxhalls, and instead of a carbon sealing washer we suggest that bakelite be employed, the locking principle being similar to that employed on the Vauxhall 25 pump.
