Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}11/AP DATE. 12th August, 1937 Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, We are much obliged to you for your letter of the 10th instant addressed for the attention of our Mr. H.E.Beck. We would like to point out, however, that we are unfortunately unable to supply standard Seals suitable for a shaft dia. of 1½", having an outer diameter of 1.5/8", as insufficient space is allowed to accommodate the component parts. We would normally recommend our standard Seal, Ref. 255/1½", for this shaft dia. and this is made suitable for a press fit in a housing bore of 2.250" + or - .001" dia. We should be very pleased to supply you with these Seals, fitted with sealing members moulded from our special heat resisting, oil and fuel/proof 'Gaco' compound which, we are glad to say, will resist a temperature of 130° C., continuously, if efficiently lubricated. If it is impracticable for you to increase the bore dia. for these Seals, we think we can put forward a suitable Seal, moulded from our 'Gaco' compound, but to enable us to design a suitable cross section, we should be pleased if you would kindly send us a Drg. showing the layout, together with dimensions of surrounding metal parts and details of operating conditions. Assuring you of our co-operation, We are, Yours faithfully, GEORGE ANGUS & Co. LTD. for H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BECK MANAGER, OIL SEAL DEPT. | ||
