1326 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Sft.{Mr Swift} ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} E.2/HP.14.9.33. re Tools for Rudge Whitworth Wheels. We are anxious to get the spanner and hammer settled up for the Rudge Whitworth wheels. We have left with you a sample of the proposed design of hammer - LeC.3595 which we consider has now reached the final stage and is ready to be O.K'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} We also require experimental approval of spanner LeC.3572. Rudge Whitworth have suggested an alternative spanner mentioned in ROY.{Sir Henry Royce}/MG.8.9.33, sample of which we attach. We think, however, this tool is too long and flexible for use with a heavy hammer such as is necessary and we think the octagon end is too weak to stand up, either it will break or distort the nut. We should be glad if you could clear up this matter as soon as possible as these two tools are urgently required to complete the kits of the first 15 cars. [Handwritten text] LID{A. J. Lidsey} I definitely think the R.W. spanner is too weak & we should try Es design HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
