RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} fu469 c. PM/FWD. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY2/G.25.4.29. RECEIVED APR 1929 NITRALLOY GEARS. ------------------ SII Although we have ordered both pinions and gear blanks in nitralloy steel we do not suggest that they should be used together, as we should not anticipate two gears of such hardness giving satisfactory results. We have discussed the matter with Messrs. Nitralloys Ltd, who confirm that our suggestion of a pinion in nickel chrome case hardened steel and a gear wheel in nitralloy steel represents the best combination. I would also like to try the combination of a nitralloy steel pinion with a nickel chrome case hardened steel gear wheel, and it was for this reason that I ordered blanks for both pinion and wheel in nitralloy steel. In the case of the starter pinion and wheel we would suggest trying the pinion in nickel chrome case hardened steel and the wheel in nitralloy steel. This combination has already been instructed.
