Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Phantom III Connecting Rods. Owing to the occurrence of two broken connecting rods on the Nairobi car we have made a design LeC.5687 strengthening the lugs where they fractured. It will be remembered that there are limitations to what we can do in this direction because of withdrawing the piston pins from the top of the cylinder block. We have put a small amount on the height of the lugs and altered the curvature of the saddle, and added a small radius to the counterboring operation for the bolt head. This will result in an increase of 55% in strength at this point. LeC.5687 herewith. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} | ||
