- 3 - HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}6.9.37. Rear Brakes. This assembly was produced to LOP.GW.1562, incorporating the following :- Inner Toggle Shaft Bearing to accord with N.S.5167. Modified Stop for Actuating Lever to N.S.5091. Modifications to Rear Brakes in accordance with N.S.5044. The condition of this unit is generally satisfactory, with the exception of the aluminium Dust Covers GW.1530/1, which were distorted approximately .150 due to stones and road conditions. To obviate a recurrence of this trouble, a stone-shield should be fitted to protect the Dust Covers. It should be noted that, contrary to standard practice, brake strap guides were not fitted to this chassis; the results, however, were satisfactory. The Brake Linings were Ferodo M.L. material; these are in good condition, with slight wear only. Rear Hubs and Drums. Complete to LOP.GW.1491, incorporating fully heat-treated aluminium drums and nickel plated liners to prevent crackling. The brake drums are produced in A.R.R.53/C. material and the liners in H.F. Millenite High Chromium Cast Iron. General condition satisfactory. Interference between liner and drum, O.S. .026, N.S. .029. Brake Equaliser Mechanism. All equalisers were in good condition, free from rust and wear negligible. Front Axle. This unit was complete to LOP.GW.1567, incorporating Ex.27967 Distance Pieces in lieu of GW.1548, to suit new hubs, and Strengthened Bell Crank Levers GW.911/2 produced from the solid. continued. | ||
