- 4 - HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}6.9.37. Front Axle (Continued). The Yoke Bottom Spherical Bearings show signs of picking up due to oil leakage; special attention should be paid to this point, since it would appear that a stronger spring, together with a felt washer, will be necessary. See Ex.I.201 attached. Excessive oil leakage is being experienced at the Top Pivot Bearing; furthermore, the oil level trough is too low. This unit should receive attention. Both of these points have been demonstrated to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Front Brakes. Complete to LOP.GW.1612. The N.S. Brakes and Drums have been exceptionally hot, the Brake Straps being discoloured and the Ferodo M.L. Brake Linings charred; we can find nothing to account for this condition. The O.S. Brake Gear is in good condition. Adjustment taken up on the O.S. was 13 and on the N.S. 23 half-turns. Front Hubs. Complete to LOP.GW.1588, incorporating fully heat-treated aluminium Brake Drums. Brake Drums produced in AP.404 Cast Alum. Liner in H.F. Millenite High Chromium Cast Iron. In general condition this unit is satisfactory; the N.S. Brake Liner, however, is in very poor condition, and appears to have commenced to turn and sheared the lugs around two of the four lockplates; this has been sent to the Design Department for the attention of Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} The loosening of the liner in the drum is probably due to overheating, as previously mentioned. The interference fit between liners and drums .027. These troubles are confined to the near side, the off-side drum being satisfactory. Front Suspension. Complete to LOP.GW.1613, incorporating the following :- Modification to Lower Triangle Lever and outer bearing to N.S.5016-21. continued. | ||
