CHASSIS PRODUCTION. 1381

We give below the position of the items which it is anticipated will be discussed at the forthcoming Chassis Conference -

PHANTOM III.

Ph.III Big End Bearings in A.C.6 Material.

These are being introduced and fitted from the 2nd. Chassis in 'D' Series and are now on test. One set has also been despatched to Sr. There is of course a saving per chassis of 2/3d. but the cost of converting the existing White Metal Bearings which are in the course of manufacture will be £60.

Arrangements have been made in accordance with instructions received in BY.7/N.8.2.38 to adopt these bearings on all 'D' Series which means that when the present 11 sets have been absorbed arrangements will be made to continue to fit this type in accordance with By's instructions referred to.

Ph.III Oil Coolers.

All coolers have been delivered for the first 100 chassis in 'D' Series. The cost to delete on the 101st. chassis in 'D' series will be £50. 12. 6d. The saving per chassis represents £1. 16. 1d. by deletion of the oil cooler.

During Chassis test only the oil cooler will be by-passed.

Ph.III Modified Teazer & Lengthened Starter Pinion.

12 Starter Motors have been completed and sent to the Repair Dept. for use on customers' complaints.
The modified teazer will be introduced on the 22nd. Chassis in 'D' Series due to test week ending March 26th.
The lengthened pinion is to be introduced on the 26th. Chassis in 'D' Series due to test April 2nd.

Ph.III Overdrive Gearbox.

This will be introduced on the 101st. Chassis in 'D' series due to test on July 9th. in accordance with the revised schedule. It will be noted that there will be six cars fitted after the completion of the first half of 'D' Series, then there will be a gap in production of further Phantoms until November 5th. The object of this being to give the Test Dept. an opportunity
