Cadillac have tried V.12 (at 60°)
V-16 (at 45° OHV; or 135° s/s valves)
yet Cadillac, with their old. trusty. & proved
V.8 built America's N°1 automobile
(judging by sales, trade opinion & resale values)
Strangely enough - the Cadillac in
question uses a 3 1/2" bore & 4 1/2" stroke
which gives it 5 2/3 L.
As you must be well aware - the
Caddy or the Mercury employ the 90°
crankshaft layout - which involves
the use of 2 heavy balance weights
to restore primary balance, & four
considerable B/W.s to deal with
unbalanced 2ndaries.
Cadillac vibration up to nearly 4000
revs (90 mph on 3.77 top) just can't
be felt. - even on the over-run - or
when abused at 5 mph on top.
Yet our American friend considers the
firing order of these 90° V.8's (with their
cranks at 90°) "cock-eyed".
