Analysis of firing orders and configurations for a 90° crank V-8 engine.

V-8 1 . 5 . 4 . 8 . 6 . 3 . 7 . 2 = = = Snag No 1: L. block does not fire in the same order as R.{Sir Henry Royce} block viz: L. block fires 1 . 4 . 3 . 2 R - " 1 . 4 . 2 . 3 Snag no 2: Blocks do not fire alternately throughout cycle viz: cyls 2+1 in L fire consecutively 8+6 in R - Over & above all this, 2 opposing pistons fire consecutively twice in each cycle viz: 1 & 5 also 4 & 8 These "niggers-in-the-woodpile" lead an American friend to the conclusion that a V-8 at 90°, with 180° Cranks & forked conn-rods (as on RR) - suitably mounted - scientifically - in chassis would provide a 1st class engine - with a F.O. of [SCRIBBLED OUT] 1 . 8 . 3 . 6 . 4 . 5 . 2 . 7 | ||
