Re American Spring and Woodhead's Spring

Analysis.

American. Woodheads.
Carbon .42 .55
Manganese .85 .40
Nickel nil nil
Phosphorus .017 .032
Silicon 1.78 .85
Sulphur .015 .037
Chromium .12 .82

The silicon is exceptionally high on the American spring and it contains no chromium to speak of. The fracture of the American spring is better than Woodheads. The microscope confirms the finer grain of the American spring.
