Belmont Works. Battersea, London, S.W.11. 7th September, 1938. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd, DERBY. EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. Dear Sirs, Referring further to your letter of the 1st September, we are advised by Messrs Glycerine Ltd. that the price for Single Distilled Glycerine packed in 10 cwt.drums is today 65/- per cwt.less 2½%. This price is almost exactly in line with the figure quoted you for Zero in bulk packages. No extra charge was made for the difference of 1-cwt drums, although the trade charges 3/- per cwt.extra for these packages. It is difficult to think, therefore, that it would be possible for you to purchase Distilled Glycerine at a lower figure than we have been able to quote you for Zero. We are wondering whether it is possible that you may have been misled by prices quoted for undistilled Glycerine, such as 80% Crude, which is produced in soap-making. This type of Glycerine is considered unsuitable for use in motor cooling systems because of the organic material and the quantity of sodium chloride, round about 10%, which it usually contains. We would further add that whereas a plain distilled Glycerine solution takes up rust and scale from the system, and the fluid becomes turbid, Zero has the advantage of keeping the fluid in the cooling system clear. We appreciate, of course, that it would be to our interest for you to use Zero to service your cars, and to Handwritten notes: Top: Juli Antwerp?
