c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8770 To CJ. - from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} SECRET. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}1/M29/10/24. Referring to your manuscript memo, and also to CJ1/E28/10/24, Messrs Hives, Bailey, Platford and myself have considered same. Dealing with your manuscript memo:- (1) It is our intention if we can get complete instructions early enough, to get two chassis complete with the fifteen items ready for the road towards the end of November. (2) The items that we consider risky, from the point of view of being able to deliver to London from the middle of April next are, as enumerated in my memo Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}22/M16/10/24:- (2) Modified E.A.C. Engine. (4) E.A.C.III Front axle with radius rods, and (5) Rear support bracket for front springs. (6) Modified 40/50HP Gearbox etc. (7) Steering. (8) Chassis 1" wider than standard. - Very slight risk. (9) New Radiator etc. - Slight risk, particularly cooling question and supports. (12) New design Switchbox, and ) ) Some risk, further (13) Starter switch on instrument board.) modifications. With the following items we feel no risk:- (1) New frame. (3) 40/50HP type rear axle 1" wider track. (10) Goshawk type front mud wing supports. (11) Dipping head lamps, controlled from instrument board. (14) New dash and bonnet. (15) New Autovac and petrol tank. We think, however, that another item (and we note in your later memo you are in agreement) the Underframe to provide new method for attaching the body, is most essential and directly connected with vibrations and booms. Re your further memo CJ1/E28/10/24 we all think this is a solution of the problem, because if we can proceed to manufacture chassis and at the same time be under no obligation to deliver these chassis from the Works until the middle of July, providing difficulties crop up that make it unwise to deliver earlier, this will almost eliminate all risk, and should give us all that opportunity of giving Sales a chassis at least as good as the present one. | ||
