Re. EXPERIMENTAL BATTERY FOR N.Sch.3712.

As requested we have been looking into the question of whether we can obtain a suitable battery having an R.R. "interior" for the above N.Sch., with modified battery box.

The only two batteries we can find suitable are of the universal standard type which have no lids. These are, in the case of the Exide, type 3XCR15 and in the case of the Peto & Radford battery Dagenite 3GX15/A.{Mr Adams}

These batteries both have 15 thin plates, we should propose to reduce this number to 13 with the use of thicker plates and dual separators thus giving us approx. the same capacity as the existing standard 40/50 unit.

In the old days we used to fit wooden crate batteries with a lid{A. J. Lidsey} over the top of the battery box, and we wonder, whether you have any objections to using the above type of battery, which would be in a moulded Dagenite case, with a metal lid{A. J. Lidsey} over the battery box itself. The inside of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} could be faced with thin sheet Bakelite, for insulating and as a protection in some measure against the effects /purposes of acid.

As far as we can ascertain there are no other batteries of suitable dimensions and having the correct capacity which would suit your requirements.
