RE BATTERY FOR N.Sch.37I2. 27.EX. P.2.

We thank you for your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst5/MA.I5.5.33. and note your remarks.

It would appear to us that for this first experimental car it would be best to use the Universal Type Battery with no lid{A. J. Lidsey}, Exide3XcrI5. and Dagenite 3gXI5/A.{Mr Adams} We do not like the scheme using the old type of wooden crate which you suggest in the latter part of your memo. The wood used to rot badly.

We note that from the numbers which you quote that you are proposing to use two six volt cells. This is not necessary and if there should happen to be a more suitable twelve volt cell we think its use might be considered, provided that it can be withdrawn from the tray.

We suggest that for the experiment the Universal Type Batteries might be fitted with a lid{A. J. Lidsey} made by ourselves in wood. The lid{A. J. Lidsey} would be roughly spiggotted by the handles and held on by the vertical studs and a bridge piece which also serves to hold the batteries in the tray.

Should this experiment with a sheet metal 3rd. cross-member and wells for the feet become ready for standardisation we presume that we should have to approach the battery makers with a view to their producing these particular batteries in cases suitable to take the moulded lid.{A. J. Lidsey}

From the coachbuilding point of view this modification to the chassis has been long overdue.
