X6055. PN. {Mr Northey} 3/WT10.8.31. S/W. {Sales / Derby Works} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ..from PN. {Mr Northey} Copy to W. WOF. (crossed out) Ex. (crossed out) 25-EX. Battery Support Failures. The daily reports show that on 28.7.31 and 31.7.31 the battery supports broke down, and on the first occasion the battery was smashed as a result. Although these accidents have a bearing on the question as to the wisdom of having a stand-by or alternative form of ignition with magneto, I do not consider that we should be influenced in future design of electrical equipment by this trouble referred to, which was in no sense a regular failure of any electrical part or instrument, but entirely a mechanical breakdown, due to unsatisfactory design, the nature of which should surely be sufficient and reliable in spite of the failure experienced so far. The point is material, in view of the proposition which I have strongly supported, that in the future our chassis of any type should be marketed without magneto. PN. {Mr Northey} | ||
