Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited. 26th August, 1938.

hydraulic application, and submit a scheme to you, for which, after your approval, we could make and supply the necessary conversion parts.

We are busy at the moment with certain installations which comprise hydraulic actuation for the front brakes and mechanical actuation for the rear brakes. I am enclosing our Drawing No. GB.23890, illustrating one of these installations, which may be of interest to you.

With regard to the backing plate design, we have made a full investigation into the proposition of using a flat plate which will have the effect of pushing the brake about 1/4" further into the brake drum, and this appears to be quite satisfactory when using the cast-iron brake drum. The only change necessary will be to the packing pieces on the outside of the backing plate which support the dust shield. This, of course, is a detail.

With regard to the cost of this first installation, we are pleased to confirm our quotation of £25., the installation to be in accordance with our Drawing No. GB.20472, including the detail change to the backing plate.

We are going ahead with the brakes, and trust that we shall receive your official order in due course.

Yours faithfully,
BENDIX LIMITED.

J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} S. IRVING,
Joint General Manager.
