BENTLEY 50 REAR AXLE TESTS. G.C.D. 839. Differential Gear Box. Belleville Washer Rating Test. GB.3980. A set of 4 Belleville washers was fitted up so that a compressive load could be applied to represent axle shaft conditions, the deflection being measured at various loads. New washers were tested and also some that had done a considerable amount of running, but no difference was found in the rating, which worked out in both cases to 9,600 lb./in. Timken Bearing Outer Race Expansion Test. A Timken thrust bearing was loaded on the inner race, forcing it into the taper of the outer race, and the expansion or distortion of the outer race measured. A maximum load of 1,500 lb. was applied and the outer race tended towards ovality, the maximum expansions at right angles being .0005" and .0010". R.M.L.
