PHANTOM II BENDIX STARTER MOTOR

We have perfected a scheme of self lubrication on the above starter motor which will thus prevent the over-oiling troubles experienced with these motors, causing sluggish operation.

The idea is similar to that on all Bosch starter motors and consists of a spring loaded felt pad let into the phosphor bronze bearing bush and fed with oil from a reservoir of oil saturated cotton wick packed into a large cavity around the bearing.

We have found on bench and chassis tests that this felt pad just sufficiently lubricates the bearing without any surplus and should last a considerable time without any replenishment, until the motor requires overhaul.

A motor so fitted has run satisfactorily on chassis 19-EX for the whole period of its running in France and has specially been tested by giving a number of starts in addition to its normal use on that chassis, with entirely satisfactory results.

The motor has also been frozen without any appreciable increase being noted in the force required to engage the flywheel.
