E.A.C. THROTTLE GOVERNOR.

We have carried out a number of tests on this unit to induce its performance to conform more nearly with that of the 40/50 HP.

The original complaints were :-

(a) Lack of selectiveness for any given setting of the hand control.

(b) Throttle opening too slowly and maximum opening too small.

(c) Load on the hand control excessive to obtain any reasonable road speed for high speed gear changing.

The first alteration effected was to increase the throttle opening to 40° for the same angular displacement of the camshaft. This was accomplished by altering the cam contour, and disposed of complaint (b), while somewhat reducing complaint (c). Attached is a graph of the relative throttle openings provided by the two cases.

Investigations were then carried out to determine the cause of complaint (c). A comparison of the E.A.C. and 40/50 HP. governors, of which a graph is attached, demonstrated that the load imposed on the hand control to overcome the governor pull at any r.p.m. is twice as much for the former as the latter. It was not considered advisable to attempt to reduce the power of the EAC. governor by altering the weight of the rotating masses, as this might have rendered the governor incapable of dealing with the stiction on the contd :-
