Dear Sirs,
For the attention of Mr. Bowering.
As you probably know, to obtain the best slow running on the present pair of 1 3/8 carburetters on the 3.5 litre Bentley, we found it necessary after quite a number of tests, to fit special non-standard suction pistons having a very much smaller clearance round the small diameter, and also a special depth of recess in the bottom of the piston.
On the 12 pairs of 1 3/8" carburetters, for which we have just received your order, we think that it is quite possible that again it will be necessary to fit a non-standard piston, and naturally we should like this settled before supplying these 12 pairs. The previous three or four sets of 1 3/8" carburetters which you had in September or October were fitted with a standard brass piston having the standard clearance and recess, and it is of course possible that you may obtain the best slow running with the standard piston.
We are sending to you under separate cover one pair of special pistons which are similar to the previously supplied standard type, differing only
