X.5250 To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. W. R2/M4.4.27. 20 HP. RADIATOR A CAST DASH. Now that we are expecting to use 6.25/7 mm. tubes on 40/50 - i.e. a smaller and half inch shorter tube - we certainly ought to do the same on the 20 HP. As the wedght of the complete radiator is only partly matrix it is thought that this would be a saving in weight and cost. The shutters (vertical) and the control like 40/50., are distinct improvements. It is thought that the cast dash increases the vibrations from the engine on the overrun, and it is understood that the reasons for the cast dash are now reduced somewhat, and it is doubtful if this would be worth the extra cost and weight. Kindly reply if incorrect. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
