The separate sketch No.1 shews this.

Capacity. The displacement per cylinder as compared with the R.R. is as follows:-
Packard. R.R.
Displacement per cylinder. 35.3435 cub.ins. 75.544 cu.ins.
" " engine 424.122 " " 454.262 " "

The crankcase carries 3 gallons of oil.

Connecting Rods. The connecting rod big end bearing is white metalled and measures 2" dia. x 1 3/8" long; the rods lying side by side on the crank.

The little end bearing is bronze bushed and measures 13/16" dia. x 1 1/4" long.

Crankshaft. The crankshaft has 3 bearings, one at each end and one midway. The 4 intermediate crank webs are shaped thus:-

Lubrication. Lubrication is by gear pump which is situated in the crankcase and is submerged in the oil. The oil is fed through the hollow crank and up to the little ends by small pipes on the connecting rods, as in our own engine.

Slipper Flywheel. There is a small slipper flywheel on the front end of the crankshaft which also does duty as a fan pulley.

Air Pump. An air pump is situated on the gear side at the rear end of the engine for supplying pressure to the petrol tank which is fixed at the back of the car.
