YOUR REF. 17th March, 1936. W.A. ROBOTHAM, ESQ., Experimental Department, Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Robotham, I have just received your letter of the 16th March; and have spoken on the telephone to Mr. Falconer of Messrs. Park, Ward, about the body for Mr. Leslie Hawkins. Mr. Falconer assures me that they will do everything possible to expedite the body; and that Mr. Hawkins will have very special attention. I am very glad indeed he is to have a steel body after all ! I will, of course, treat the matter as confidential. Mr. Worth sent me a copy of his letter to you of March 9. I wonder if you have yet had time to go into the tyre question any further ? I note that he favours the 6.00-17 tyre as being the most suitable; although, according to the figures he gives, this cover and tube is approximately 1 3/4 lbs. heavier than the 5.50-18, or present fitment. I notice, also, that he says the 6.50-16 Aero Cushion will be in production with the original Bentley tread on March 23. Possibly you may care to test some of them ? But I also notice that the 6.50-16 Aero Cushion with the new tread is approximately 3 lbs. heavier than the same tyre with the diamond tread, which you do not like; and approximately 2 1/2 lbs. heavier than the 5.50-18, or present original equipment. I should be very interested to know when you come to any decision on the matter. Yours sincerely, Rothes- P.S. Since writing this Mr Worth has sent me a copy of his reply to you of march 16th.
