-2- Summarising the present position, therefore, if complaints are received about carburetters without the outside balance pipe, this modification can be fitted to improve the consumption. If complaints are received about carburetters of the latest type, the actual consumption should be verified before putting the matter up to us, and if the figures approximate to those given in the attached report, then better results cannot be expected and the complaint is either due to the customer's method of measurement, or driving conditions. Can Mr. allot one of his testers to be a carburetter expert in matters of consumption, experimentally we have not the capacity to be continually dealing with complaints. The loss of the mixture control is of course a separate issue, this report only dealing with the standard carburetter. The possibility of incorporating a mixture control on the latest carburetter is being dealt with by the Design and Experimental Departments. We think, however, that its advantages will be very limited. Furthermore, we have been asked repeatedly for a fully automatic carburetter which eliminates the necessity for even a starting control, and have such a scheme running experimentally. The present demand for a manually variable mixture control is hardly compatible with fully automatic operation. Ha/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Att: Ha/Wym.{G.
