Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8470 BY2/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 29.4.26. FRONT AXLE FORGING. ------------------- This is as good as we can possibly get it with present equipment, i.e. drop hammer finish. If we had a hydraulic press and pickled and thoroughly descaled the forging, just as we would prepare it for machining, and then heated it in a reducing atmosphere and squeezed it in press, we could get absolutely clean sharp finish, almost as good as machine finish, - but short of this we cannot get a better finish, in my opinion, than Vickers have given us in sample forgings. If Vickers can live up to this standard, we will be better off than we have ever been before, but I doubt the capacity of any firm to keep dies etc. in trim in spite of scale, to maintain even this standard. .
