re: Chassis B.I.CW Paris Trials car.
Excessive oil consumption.
-------------------------

Mr. E.R. HALL made a run from Paris to Le Mans and back thought the following would be of interest to you, and asked me to drop you a line.

Sr. who very recently in company with

The engine of the above chassis when the car is driven at very high speeds consumes 5 litres of oil per 200 Kms. and when driven at moderately high speeds or only very rarely reaching 4.000 R.P.M. then the oil consumption is 1 litre per 200 Kms.

The following information may we think, also be of interest to you :-

1°. This car has been in service since December 1934.

2°. Total mileage run up to date is 54.678 Kms.

3°. On the 9.7.35 we carried out an R.IO engine clean etc.. after a mileage of 20.995 Kms.

4°. On the 2.9.35 after a mileage of 33.560 Kms., ? we carried out an R.2D engine clean , fitted lead bronze bearings and changed all the piston rings , we fitted the EB. 1407 type of scraper ring.

5°. Since we carried out the R.20 engine clean etc.. the oil consumption has been gradually getting worse.

Sr. says that as soon as this car is sold it will be necessary to put matters right and we therefore, think that we shall have to effect the following work :-

1°. As we know that the cylinder bores are getting in a worn state , then we propose to rebore and fit o/s Aerolite pistons.

2°. Fit Hall's metal bearings to the connecting rods in place of the existing lead bronze type (It seems a pity to have to scrap L.B.B.'s bearings after so short a service ?)

3°. Fit a low capacity oil pump.

Will Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} please arrange to have sent to us a set of Hall's metal bearings for the connecting rods of this car which are of the "non drilled up type".

Please find attached our Official
Order n°. 763.
