Replying to By/Mtn.25/N. 8.1.35, we consider that research work on the mechanical efficiency of the petrol engine would be of considerable interest, more particularly in relation to piston friction, the effect of ring pressure and number of rings, the relative value of split skirt and unsplit type pistons, and the bearing of journal and connecting rod bearing diameters on the subject. Also the saving produced by using roller bearings. We are also interested in the limiting speeds and durability of silent chain drives suitable for the front end.
