(E1) IGNITION (CONTD.) -7- E6/G1/5/19. contact breaker cover has been discussed, but the design for this also has apparently never been submitted to Mr. Royce. The ballast resistance will require attention for the 40/50 H.P. chassis, and it is desired that an immediate scheme be prepared to deal with this point. Mr. Royce thinks that the lamp warning should be abandoned, and that a little ballast resistance coil wound on a porcelain reel should be located on the bottom of the coil box, very possibly secured thereto by the spindle passing through the centre of the coil core, which can be lengthened in a downward direction. It may further be possible to make the contact by this means, to one end of the ballast coil and arrange a central terminal for the remaining contact. A scheme should therefore be immediately prepared in Derby on these lines. The ballast coil will be exposed so as to get rid of the heat generated, or be protected by a suitable perforated metal cover. A telegram reading as follows, was sent to Mr. Bailey by Mr. Royce, in answer to the proposal to fit C.A.V. dynamo and switches :- "CAV CUTOUT IS A FAILURE MR CLARK REPORTS CAV DYNAMO UNSATISFACTORY WE CONCLUDE ONLY SAFE POLICY WILL BE TO FIT LUCAS DYNAMO CUTOUT SWITCHBOARD AND SWITCHES PREFERABLY WITH WESTON AMMETER." Mr. Royce considers that the lucas firm will do much better work than the C.A.V. and we should abandon C.A.V. (Contd.) | ||
