Dear "Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}",

re Solex.

Immediately on receipt of your memo this morning I got in touch with Monsieur Félix Goudard, Managing Director of the SOLEX Company, and this afternoon I spent the best part of an hour with him.

It would take too long to give you all the details discussed during our conversation, but in short, "after taking the oath" it was agreed that he would send round to me, probably tomorrow, blue prints of the carburetor similar to the type fitted on the 12 Cyl. Hispano-Suiza.

It is interesting to note that the Solex people do not manufacture this model, and it is entirely manufactured by the Hispano-Suiza firm.

However, Mr Goudard tells me that all the designs and blue prints connected with the carburetor are their property, and have nothing to do with the Hispano-Suiza firm. He added that there would consequently be no difficulty in going further into this question later on, if you are interested

He particularly stressed the fact that in the event of your being interested, it would be necessary for their technical engineer to go to Derby, to give you information as he is quite certain that nothing satisfactory can be obtained from the blue prints.

The main point which seems to be worrying them, is that we should pay particular attention not to let other firms get hold of their blue prints. They really do not mind what we do, but they have no confidence in other firms!

Kindly keep me advised, and if you are interested, I imagine I can obtain any other prints you may require, such as manufacturing prints, etc.

Yours sincerely,
W. Slaton
- W/r.{Sir Henry Royce}
