TO HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} from EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} LIDx4702 EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/25.5.33. COPY TO [REDACTED] RE BENTLEY BODIES. We thank you for you Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LidI/KT.24.4.33. which we have been delayed in replying to due to recent happenings at W.W. (1) We do not want to raise the third and fourth body brackets (counting from the rear). It helps the coachbuilder to have all the brackets at the same level. Future bodies will be made to suit, on the second Bentley body we ommitted to tell the coachbuilder that we had made this change although it was he that had asked for it. (2) We cannot move the body bracket near the centre pillar as it is this bracket which has to carry the centre pillar. In future coachbuilders will be warned to keep the door check clear of this body bolt. (3) The question of the fitting up of the central patch of the instrument board being dependent on the exact thickness of the board has been investigated with E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. and Mr Davis. and B is looking into madifiactions to overcome the trouble that you metion. (4) The close proximity to the thumb of the speedometer trip when using the hand brake is being dealt with by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Wst. (5) It is the custom in the case of cars having a bonnet such as that of the Bentley for the coachbuilder to supply and fit any waist moulding that is required on the bonnet. It should have been done in the case of the body in question. (6) The question of hiding the bonnet hinge joint beneath the waist moulding has been dealt with in a separate memo. (7) The angle of the louvres in the bonnet should be the same as that of the back end of the side panel of the bonnet. (8) The special wing stay suitable for use with flared front wings is shewn on N.Sch.3732. (9) It is the standard practice on all R-R Cars that the direction indicator switch should be mounted in the centre of the scuttle finisher and that was the intention on this car. (10) We would be glad if Derby would shew the strip of felt attached to the scuttle at the back end of the bonnet on the Scuttle Isolation Drawing with a suitable note calling the coachbuilder's attention to its necessity. (11) The support of the instrument board is a coachbuilders responsibility and we are taking the matter up with Messrs Park Ward & Co. (12) | ||
