Copy from: PRICE'S PATENT CANDLE COMPANY LIMITED Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited - 2 - 24th May 1930 "We give you as follows the set of figures obtained as a result of the examination of the three samples in question:- SPECIAL GEAR COMPOUND Unused. After 25 miles After 65 miles After 106 miles Water 0.4 0.65 0.25 0.2 Vis.@ 140° 330 370 440 500 Free Acids calculated @ 282 17.9 18.7 19.3 20.7 Ash 3.0% 3.1% 3.1% 3.1% "Coming to the question of water addition, our Chemists find that 2% causes a reduction of 10% in viscosity. Whitmore's Compound is similarly affected. The addition of 3% causes yet a further reduction in viscosity, and it is evident that the small proportion of water has a serious effect on the efficienty of the lubricant as such. Accordingly, as arranged, we have prepared a gallon of Special Gear Compound with which 3% of water has been incorporated, and this is now being despatched to you. Yours truly PRICE'S PATENT CANDLE COMPANY LIMITED. (sgd) J.W.G.Brooker. | ||
