Referring to Sft{Mr Swift}/WNW.1/DR.7.10.36, we have noted the estimated cost of this two piece scheme of push rod. Owing to the fact that we are not completely satisfied that the scheme will be absolutely satisfactory we do not think that the saving to be achieved, which is approximately 1/- per chassis, (including charges) is sufficient to warrant proceeding any further. We originally started on this job on the strength of information received which showed that the material cost of the push rods used on the 25/30 HP. and 4 1/4 litre Bentley was almost three times the price of those used on the 20/25 HP. and 3 1/2 litre Bentley. From this we naturally inferred that a push rod having one end jumped up only could be obtained for a smaller figure that the 20/25 type of push rod, and we proceeded to produce LeC.5272. We now find, however, that our information was incorrect and that the material cost of the push rods on the large bore engines is only 1/- more per chassis than rods used on the small bore engines. We understand that you are attempting to achieve a saving on this piece by other means, and we shall be interested to hear what results you obtain. E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} | ||
