INFORMATION FOR DEALING WITH LEFT-HAND
P. 2. CARS IN AMERICA.

Disconnecting Rear Engine Feet.

With chassis previous to those with flexible engine mountings, in isolated cases it may be desirable to disconnect the rear engine feet from the frame in order to reduce booming in the body of the car. This should be done temporarily by taking out the four bolts connecting the engine foot to the crankcase and sliding the foot clear of the crankcase.

If this gives the desired effect and it is decided to despatch the car with the rear engine feet clear from the frame, we advise that the engine foot be bolted to the crankcase but disconnected to the frame. The plates and rubbers forming the sandwich foot should be removed and a plate F.83763 bolted to the foot. This plate is intended to carry the weight of the rear of the engine if at any time the gear box is removed. We attach a print showing the standard engine foot F.82512 and the engine foot disconnected from the frame Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}368.

Thermostat Spring.

We are sending under separate cover two sample thermostat springs so that you can raise the running water temperature on certain cars. The back of the thermostat is taken off and the spring inserted.

These springs should be tested under summer U.S.A. conditions to ensure that they do not increase the tendency to boil. This difficulty should not occur on cars with dented tube matrixes.

Flexible Engine Mounted Cars.

There are five chassis 277-281 A.J.S. inclusive fitted with the new flexible engine mounting which have been improved on later chassis.

(1) In cases where there is excessive radiator movement on the road it may be necessary to give the radiator more movement across the frame on its centre mounting. The movement can be increased by :-

(a) Raising the radiator.

(b) Ensuring the radiator member is clear of the radiator bottom tank.
