V6096 / H690 EFC. C.BY/RD. BY5/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 13-10-27 SPRINGS FOR MAKE AND BREAK LEVERS. PIECE NO.D.50793. I am handing you herewith two samples of springs produced for the above parts by Messrs Gillotts, the makers of steel pens. we have gone to these people with the object of obtaining:- a/- A better material from the point of view of heat-treatment and finish, which is most certain to accrue in view of the fact that the whole of their business consists in dealing with light gauge sections, and the heat-treatment of same. b/- I wish to cut out the plating of the part in question, as this certainly introduces the risk of absorbed hydrogen, with its resultant brittleness. My object in sending you the springs is for you to try same out, and see whether the oxide interferes with the electrical contact and general conductivity of a spring and its method of securing same.
