ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} 87410. BY.8/G.6.1.33. RECEIVED JAN 6 1933 RE: ROAD SPRINGS HAVING ROLLED EYES. Referring to ROY.{Sir Henry Royce}3/MG.12.11.32. we have been going into this matter carefully, and have discussed same with the Experimental Department. The position is as follows :- (1). We have no standardisation sheet for the 40/50 chassis using rolled eyes, and before committing ourselves we are certain that we ought to run a chassis in France fitted with springs of this type. (2). Since the rolled eye demands a thicker top plate, which in turn means that we must modify our shackles, BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} will have to produce modified shackles to mate with the rolled eye spring. (3). We consider that we should order two sets of 40/50 springs of our average poundages for the Experimental Department, who would then arrange to :- (a). Test a set on the bumper. (b). Fit the springs in question to one of the 40/50 chassis going to France. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
