near float chamber. It only occurs when running out of petrol but this is every time owing to the vertical pipe having air in it.

Exhaust. On further consideration we have concluded that it would be dangerous to make the exhaust more audible in case the chassis intended for an open body was used with a closed body. Therefore the only scheme available is a cut-out which can be of the order of freeing the silencer by a scheme I proposed some many years ago, namely - running the in-going pipe right through.

Such a scheme leaves the exhaust still fairly silent and by the gases still coming out of the usual rear place, does not leave the exhaust gases under the car, also any slight leak as is of no moment.

Ignition cam lubrication. Mr. Elliott's oiling device to ignition cam should certainly be tried.

Oil consumption. This is extremely low for the engine but we found that the filter (oil) on 4-Goshawk-II was made of the
