-2- (c) Marstons will improve their Mark Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} block until they have a 52 m.m. block which will give the same test figures as the 52 m.m. A.H.V. block in test (a). (2) Determination of thickness of Mark Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} block to give minimum air temperature rise with same heat dissipation at Mark V 84 m.m. block - Marston's own test blocks, approx. 18" x 20" to be used. Tests & Conditions. (a) By trial of various thicknesses of Mark Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} block, Messrs Marston will determine the thickness of this block to give same heat dissipation as the 84 m.m. Mark V.{VIENNA} block. (b) Test first to be carried out with Mark V.{VIENNA} 84 m.m. block, then when readings are constant and noted, this block is to be removed and the Mark Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} block determined in (a) is to be replaced, readings again being noted, no alteration to any of the settings being made. Heat to be dissipated - 4500 BThUs/Min. air inlet - 30°C. Air flow - 80 m.p.h. car speed. Water flow - This depends upon the exact size of the test block. In the case of the radiator for which these tests are being made, the flow is 35 galls. /min. and the dimensions are approx. 27.750 x 22.450 x 3.307 - see accompanying blue print. We suggest that the flow for the test block should be - 35 x AT = -------- = .472 AT 22.450 x 3.307 Where As is the area in square inches of the section of test block perpendicular to water flow (see accompanying blue print). Measure (Air exit temperature from radiator. (Pressure of air at inlet and exit. (Water inlet and exit temperatures. This will give air temperature rise for given heat dissipation.
