Testing and introduction of rivetless bonnets for the 40/50 model, expressing anxiety over potential delays.

Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Owing to shortage of time yesterday afternoon, I find I missed a point which I wanted to raise about the introduction of Rivetless bonnets on 40/50's. You will remember that it is being standardised on 20/25's on "U" Series and the position of course is that, when once the public sees it on that car, they will expect it on the large one. Item 7, Page 5 of the Minutes of the former conference said that P.II, 22-EX "is fitted with a sample but is not yet standardised. It is hoped to complete 10,000 mile test in time to standardise it parallel with 20/25 type". The car on which it was proposed to standardise it was, I think, 19-EX which at that date we thought was going to start its test at the end of January. It has now come back to the middle of March because of synchro mesh, and I am afraid that, unless we are very careful, we shall get the introduction of rivetless bonnets on P.II delayed longer than necessary. I should be glad if you would have a talk with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} about it with a view to seeing whether we feel that it is necessary to run this bonnet for a 10,000 mile test, bearing in mind that the 20/25 is presumably made in the same way and has done a similar test, and if it is necessary, I presume we cannot expedite it as it hardly seems worth while running a car for the bonnet only.
